JOHN LENNON AND YOKO ONO´S TWO visits to The Dick Cavett Show stand out from their numerous television appearances as their most relaxed, in-depth interviews. Clearly they enjoyed being with Cavett. They even cast him in one of their films. The September 11, 1971, show is notable as the first American television interview John gave after the breakup of The Beatles. So comfortable were the Lennons that after the show was over they continued talking with Cavett. The additional portions of that first interview were shown as part of The Dick Cavett Show on September 24, 1971. During that visit they´d discussed coming back and giving a live performance. True to their word, for their appearance on Cavett´s show on May 11, 1972, they returned with Elephants Memory and each sang one song.

Dvě návštěvy Johna Lennona a Yoko Ono v Dick Cavett Show vybočují z řady jejich televizních vystoupení jako jejich nejvíce uvolněné a podrobné interview. Viditelně se užívali být v této show s Cavettem. Dokonce mu nabídli kratičkou epizodku v jednom ze svých filmů(Imagine). Show z 11.září 1971 stojí za povšimnutí z toho důvodu, že je prvním americkým televizním vystoupení, které John poskytl po rozpadu Beatles. John a Yoko byli dokonce tak uvolněni, že pokračovali v rozhovoru s Dickem Cavettem i po konci jeho show. Tuto neoficiální část jejich prvního vystoupení měli diváci možnost shlédnout 24.září 1971. Během této návštěvy John a Yoko prodiskutovali možnost návratu a slíbili, že dokonce i živě zahrají. Své slovo splnili a 11. května 1972 se opět zúčastnili Cavettovy show a za doprovodu skupiny Elephants Memory každý z nich zazpíval jednu píseň(Woman Is The Nigger Of The World a We´re All Water).
