"Mind Games" bylo Johnovým prvním albem, které nahrával sám bez pomoci svého dvorního
producenta Phila Spectora. Obrázek na albu přímo napovídal o rozchodu Johna s Yoko v říjnu 1973.
Část profilu její hlavy tvoří jakousi horu v pozadí, zatímco Lennon s kufrem v ruce odchází
neznámo kam. Z důvodu odchodu z domova v důsledku manželské krize John tentokrát nedal Yoko
na tomto albu prostor a všechny písně napsal sám a ujal se dokonce i produkce a aranžmá.
Reakce kritiků na toto album jsou rozporuplné - zatímco někteří tvrdí, že Mind Games
odhalují prázdnotu Lennonova tvůrčího a osobního života v roce 1973("...hudba z tohoto alba je
nenápaditá a její texty jsou plny deziluze namísto Lennonova obvyklého optimismu"), jiní shledávají sladby
na tomto albu lyricky i melodicky jemnější než na Imagine. Zajímavé je, že Ringovo nové album(Ringo,1973),
které vyšlo v tutéž dobu předstihlo Mind Games v žebříčcích. A o necelý měsíc později bylo Mind Games převálcováno
McCartneyho nejúspěšnějším albem Band On The Run. Původní gramofónová deska se samozřejmě dočkalo i své CD verze, která
však obsahovala pouze tenký booklet s texty a vydavatel se ani nenamáhal se zobrazením zadní strany alba.
Teprve koncem roku 2002 bylo toto album vydáno ve velmi zdařilé reedici rozšířené o tři domácí nahrávky
písní Aisumasen, Bring On The Lucie a Meat City . Součástí je kvalitní booklet jehož design
dělala sama Yoko Ono a jak praví nálepka na obalu "obsahuje dále vzácné malůvky od Johna Lennona,
fotografie a památky".
